AP Tools: A Brief History

AP Tools is a family run business, founded in 2002 by Andy Powell and now run by his brother Scott.

Andy Powell started as an aerospace engineer for British Aerospace in Hamble, near Southampton. Frustrated by the lack of knowledge of the specialist tools available, Andy started a tool club for his colleagues, supplying them with hand tools.

The club grew so fast that British Aerospace offered him an office, and he quit his engineer to start his own company, AP Tools Ltd. From that first office at British Aerospace Hamble, he began supplying major brands including Desoutter, Atlas Copco, Cherry Aerospace, and other major aerospace brand tooling.

Almost 24 year later, under the leadership of Scott Powell, AP Tools have customers all over the world. We now service several major world-wide companies in the UK, Europe, US, and worldwide

In 2012, AP Tools moved literally just down the road to our current premises at Mitchell Point in Hamble Le Rice, where Southampton Water and the River Hamble meet. It’s a short walk to the beach and the Royal Victoria Country Park, so if you’re coming to visit our sales team in person, why not make a day of it! (We have free parking outside our Unit too.)
